If you are moving to Canyon Country or you already call it home, the calendar that matters most this month is not the housing market, it is the school calendar. Canyon High School students in the William S. Hart Union High School District headed back on August 11, 2026, and most Canyon Country elementary kids in the Sulphur Springs Union School District started two days later, on August 13, 2026. Michelle and Jon Dubner get calls from Canyon Country families every August asking what is actually running in their neighborhood, the schools, the library, the community center, the farmers market. Here in Santa Clarita, Jon and I put together what fall in Canyon Country really looks like on the ground, so you are not hunting for it school night by school night.

• Canyon High School and the rest of the William S. Hart Union High School District started the 2026-2027 year on August 11, 2026. Sulphur Springs Union School District's elementary schools started two days later, on August 13, 2026.
• The Canyon Country Community Center, 18410 Sierra Highway, runs afterschool care for ages 5 to 11 and a teen program for ages 12 to 17, both Monday through Friday from 2:30 to 6:00 p.m.
• The Canyon Country Farmers Market sets up in the Community Center parking lot every Wednesday, 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., year-round.
• The Canyon Country Jo Anne Darcy Library, 18601 Soledad Canyon Road, runs weekly storytime and crafting programs alongside its regular open hours.

Canyon High School, at 19300 Nadal Street, is the neighborhood's own comprehensive high school. It has been there since 1968 and is part of the William S. Hart Union High School District, the district that covers grades 7 through 12 across Santa Clarita. For elementary-age kids, most of Canyon Country falls within the Sulphur Springs Union School District, an elementary district headquartered at 27000 Weyerhaeuser Way that runs schools across the east side of the Santa Clarita Valley. If you are buying a home here, exact school assignment depends on the specific address, so always confirm boundaries directly with the district before you count on a particular school for your kids.

According to the Hart District's own posted calendar, high schoolers went back on August 11, 2026. Sulphur Springs Union School District's calendar has elementary students starting two days later, on August 13, 2026. If you are closing on a home in Canyon Country this summer, that is the real deadline on your calendar, not the moving truck.

The Canyon Country Community Center sits at 18410 Sierra Highway and it is busier than most people driving past it realize. There is an afterschool program for ages 5 to 11 and a Teen Experience program for ages 12 to 17, both running Monday through Friday from 2:30 to 6:00 p.m. Younger kids have their own toddler classes, things like food-and-reading activities and craft and sensory programs for ages 2 to 5. On the other end, there are senior programs including bingo, line dancing, and mahjong. College of the Canyons runs noncredit courses out of the center too. The building also has a full-sized indoor gym for open play basketball, table tennis, and pickleball. If you want current class times or to register for anything, the center's line is 661-290-2266.

Yes, and it is easy to miss if you only shop on weekends. The Canyon Country Farmers Market runs every Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., set up right in the Community Center parking lot at 18410 Sierra Highway. It runs year-round, which makes it a genuinely useful weeknight stop rather than a seasonal one-off, especially for anyone working a schedule that does not leave room for the Saturday or Sunday markets on the other side of the valley.

The Canyon Country Jo Anne Darcy Library, at 18601 Soledad Canyon Road, is open Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Sunday 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Beyond the usual browsing and study space, the branch runs a regular storytime for younger kids and a crafting program where people bring a portable project and work alongside other crafters.
